FOOD FOR THOUGHTS
METHODS

RAI is a qualitative research and analysis tool designed to continuously integrate user feedback into the design and development process. The approach combines proven qualitative research methods with multimodal AI agents to capture, interpret, and operationalize user preferences. Its goal is to enable an ongoing dialogue with the “voice of the user” and support more informed, user-centered design decisions.

The application of RAI is based on a three-step process. First, real user data is gathered through qualitative interviews, observations, and co-creation methods. Second, these insights are transferred into an AI model as contextual information. Finally, the model can be used as a dialog-based persona that provides feedback during the design process and reflects decisions from a user perspective. This creates an iterative exchange between the design team and an AI-supported representation of the target audience.

A typical use case for RAI is within product and design development. Designers can ask the AI agent questions such as: “Which of these concepts would you prefer and why?” Based on previously collected user preferences, the agent responds with insights that simulate attitudes, values, and aesthetic preferences of the target group. RAI does not replace real users, but instead acts as a complementary tool for rapid hypothesis generation, early validation, and creative reflection.
